VAT Relief

VAT relief for users with disabilities

If you have a disability including Dyslexia, you should be able to claim VAT relief. Relief is available for individual items of software and complete systems, including hardware. The only restriction is that all items for which relief is sought must be purchased at the same time, i.e. they must be all be invoiced together.

Some direct applications for relief have been unsuccessful in the past. You should check first with us regarding your eligibility. If we agree that this is appropriate you will not be asked to pay VAT. Words Worldwide will then take responsibility for the application on behalf of the purchaser.

All that is required is that the purchaser completes a formal declaration confirming that the user requires the equipment to assist with overcoming literacy difficulties.

This must be mailed to our office at the time of purchase. We will then submit this documentation to Customs and Revenue and obtain the relief for you.

VAT relief is not available unless the purchase is made by the disabled person or their parent or guardian.

VAT relief does not apply to organisations buying oddslot software of equipment for general use or on behalf of a user with a disability and it does not apply to Charities.

In the unlikely event that we are uncertain whether you are eligible for relief, you can check with your local VAT office and/or consult VAT notice 701/7 to see whether you are eligible to receive zero rated goods. For further information please feel free to call our office on 01661 – 854700 or e-mail :
